A downloadable game

This is a early 2022 Sunny Cup Demo.

Sunny Cup is a drift-oriented 3rd person racing game. It focuses on easy-to-approach controls and highly competitive mechanics. Build your way to car culture or just let the flow of drifting take over!

Sunny Cups core is the driving assist that helps player to focus on turn ins, brakings and takeovers, instead of trying to keep the car on track.  But don't let this fool you, adjust it to your liking and see how's your time on scoreboards!

This demo features:

  • Story mode
  • Arcade mode
  • 6(!!) different cars
  • Local multiplayer
  • AI drivers to compete against
  • Online scoreboards
  • Different game modes, including Chase and Cones
  • Bugs? Tell me (in Discord) if you find one!

Please consider that the game is currently under development, and things like sound design is hardly a proof of concept. Also there are no way to rebind keys, maybe in next update?

Can't say I'm a fan of the camera view or this subgenre of racing (games) but I am a huge fan of the aesthetics and atmosphere of this game. I also like the music and the UI/UX.  The physics and and controls are also well done

Hopefully you're continuing the project and I would love to see the full version!

Hello. I'm just in love with this game. I wanted to ask if there will be different languages in the game. I would like to develop a translation from English to Ukrainian, if you provide such an opportunity. Thank you. Good luck with further development, I look forward to the new version.

Thank you, it's great to hear that you enjoy the game! I'm more than pleased to hear that, currently there's english, korean and japanese language options. Let me get back to you when the time is right, thanks!

As I played, I made a bit of a list (sorry if its a lot). I wasn't able to get through all of it yet, but here's what I've gathered so far. Even though it's rough around the edges, there is a lot of charm to this game and I can't wait to see the development progress, as it has been :)

1. Main menu navigation with a controller is a bit finicky, specifically while changing options. When I selected an option and pressed A to change it, it seems to turn it on and off very quickly. I needed to adjust my options with my keyboard and mouse in order to make the changes more reliably.

2. After selecting gamepad as my input device after starting the game, prompts still appear as keyboard prompts for the first cutscene. After loading into the second part of the cutscene (after you see 2 vans on the moutain pass), it seems to switch the prompts to gamepad prompts.

3. The initial feel of driving the van is really jarring, I think the lack of rumbling while driving or losing traction is throwing me off. Maybe a slight rumble to let you know you're driving and something a bit more for when you're drifting would help me feel more connected with the vehicle.

4. When at the "Home" location, the same buttons to navigate the menu also manipulate the camera angle. When I press D-Pad (specifically Up/Down) to navigate the menu, the camera zooms in and out.

5. I was able to put my van on stands (while changing out wheels), but never selected any wheel. Now during the cutscene of the "Meet" location (first time seeing the 86), my van is on stands

6. The meet started while I was on stands

I stopped playing after encounter that bug, but I plan on playing through this entire demo.

If you need anymore specific details, feel free to DM and I will do my best to explain how I got into certain states I described above

Edit: I recorded this video to try to visualize the issues I've been having with controller.

Thank you for your long post and detailed information! That menu bug is quite wild and havent seen that happen before, also the menu zooming is brand new. I'll contact you through DM for detailed information, thanks!

I liked the game, the physics of the car. Except for one thing: if you take your finger off the gas pedal button the car seems to start braking, the drop in speed is too sharp.

Thank you and noted! It's like a classic racing: "you only lift the gas to brake" 😎

I understand. But it prevents you from showing the best time. I would put the automatic brakes in the settings. Those who like it will drive with it, and those who don't - without it. Choice that's always good.

Real cool game! the handling is challenging but satisfying and i really like the art style of this game, reminds me of absolute drift. my only complaint is that the cars dont sound great but i understand that the game is not complete and that things will change for the final product so that would be my only suggestion.

Thank you! You got that right, the sounds are definitely the weakest link at the moment and will be redone for the final product. ✌🏻

Awesome! good luck to you guys

I am absolutely amazed by this game. It feels like the game I was looking for for quite some time now. A game that is not about winning every race in every car on any track, but a game that is about the vibes, the mood, that one car you love and develop and just the racing. (It seems like) you dont just go out and buy every car you want and get loads of cash for every race just to buy  more cars. (From what I have seen until now) you just get your one car and work on that, (apparently) have to earn cash to afford it and even have to maintain it. I really love the RPG and story elements and the fact that it is not all about just winning.

It is also a realy nice concept that you basically start of with slot car like controlls. it helps to learn the tracks and get into a rythm and if you just want to vibe, thats all you need, but if you want to challange yourself and shave of them laptimes you can gradually decrease the steering assist.

The only thing I found a little frustrating was the behaviour of the guard rails. you seem to get stuck in them and when they end, you snap off the road. But ok, i think that could be avoidable by just having skill instead of hugging the rails every two laps XD

I really hope the development goes on in this direction. Keep up the great work.

Oh yes, the damn rails! There's a few core mechanic issues related to the rails and thats something I need to look at. But I'm really happy that you enjoy the game, I feel like you grasped the idea as I've intended it!

This is fun but I think the tutorial needs a skip option because the last part can be a little frustrating even with assist on 8. Other than that it's pretty sick, I could see this being really fun and the tail light trails are awesome.

Thank you for feedback, these cones really split people into opposites. I've made few changes based on how testers have managed through this part and seems like those could be adjusted more!

This is a great racing game. I really liked the inspiration coming from Initial D, in addition to the huge level of challenge you have when doing the turns. Without a doubt, this game has great potential to be amazing. Congratulations and keep it up guys.

Thank you!
